Two rhythms. One shared space.

Polyrhythm practice sheet · SuperTime Ultra

The rule: keep each layer evenly spaced. The low reference follows BPM; the small grid slots are subdivisions, not extra reference beats.

3:2 · 6 equal slots

High · 3Low · 2123456Slots →Next cycle begins after the final slot
High: 1, 3, 5. Low: 1, 4. At 60 reference BPM the shared cycle lasts 2 seconds.

4:3 · 12 equal slots

High · 4Low · 3123456789101112Slots →Next cycle begins after the final slot
High: 1, 4, 7, 10. Low: 1, 5, 9. At 60 reference BPM the shared cycle lasts 3 seconds.

5:4 · 20 equal slots

High · 5Low · 41234567891011121314151617181920Slots →Next cycle begins after the final slot
High: 1, 5, 9, 13, 17. Low: 1, 6, 11, 16. At 60 reference BPM the shared cycle lasts 4 seconds.

Seven focused sessions

  1. Hear and clap each 3:2 layer separately.
  2. Combine the hands for one clean cycle using the six-slot grid.
  3. Build to eight relaxed cycles, then stop and restart.
  4. Swap the hands or move the reference to a foot.
  5. Mute a layer in the lab and supply it yourself.
  6. Apply the relationship to a simple musical phrase.
  7. Review the spacing; explore 4:3 when ready.

Repeat any session that is not yet comfortable. Start with five minutes, not a speed target.

Remember: swing is a long-short subdivision feel; tresillo uses unequal 3+3+2 gaps; a shared-pulse polymeter changes bar lengths. These are not interchangeable with an equal-span 3:2 polyrhythm.
