Hand Jam is a free browser gesture synth for musicians, students, and curious players. A camera turns clear hand shapes into harmony while Air Melody adds a scale-aware lead you can glide through with one finger.

What this tool includes

Chord shapes

Start with five simple shapes in Easy mode, or use Expressive mode for a seven-chord palette with OK and horns.

Air Melody

Point one finger and move left or right through the selected scale while the other hand shapes the tone.

Sound design

Choose Warm, Glass, Pulse, or Organ, then add filter motion, reverb, and a tempo-synced arpeggiator.

Beats included

Add a metronome, drum groove, or 3:2 and 4:3 polyrhythm without leaving the instrument.

Local recording

Capture a camera-and-audio take in Cover Studio, review it immediately, and download it from the browser.

How to use this tool

  2. Choose a sound: Pick a key, progression, synth tone, beat, or arpeggiator settings.
  3. Enable input: Allow camera access, or use the touch ribbon and chord pads without a webcam.
  4. Play the instrument: Hold a clear hand shape for a chord or point and glide through the scale.
  5. Make a take: Open Cover Studio when you want to review or download a local performance.

No. A webcam can provide the gesture input, and touch controls and keyboard controls provide a camera-free fallback.

Yes. Chords mode assigns a stable chord to each supported hand shape and keeps it sounding until you show a release shape or press Stop.

Can I record what I play?
