How to practise 4 against 3
Practice 4:3, 4 3, 4/3, 4 over 3, and 4 against 3 with a free online polyrhythm metronome, linear and circular visualizer, tempo control, MIDI export, and counting guide.
01
Stabilise three
Start with the three-pulse side as the larger felt beat and keep its cycle obvious at a slow tempo.
02
Add four
Place four even pulses over the same cycle, listening for the downbeat where both sides meet.
03
Move to the instrument
Keep one layer in the foot or voice while the other layer is played lightly, then reverse the roles.
