Simulating a ratio before you can play it
A simulator is for prediction: set a ratio you cannot play yet, slow it down and watch where the hits land before you try. Start at 40 to 50 BPM on the base layer so every slot is visible, switch between the clock and the grid, and say the attacks out loud as they pass.
Compare two ratios back to back (3:2 then 4:3, or 5:4 then 7:4). Their smallest counting grids use six, twelve, twenty and twenty-eight slots. The duration also depends on the selected BPM reference, so a larger grid does not by itself mean slower playback.
Use Sequence to rehearse a planned order of ratios for a chosen number of cycles, or mute the counter and predict its attacks against the base. Keep swing, offset and humanize at zero while checking the evenly spaced pattern, then change one setting at a time to hear its effect.
