Practise the songs you play

Type a song, tap along to set its tempo, and practise it with a count-in and a real groove. Save your songs and add them to your band setlist. Free.

Practise the songs you actually play. Type a song and get a groove in its style, tap along to the recording to set the tempo your band plays it at, and play it with a count-in. Your songs stay on this device and go into a band setlist in one tap.

How to use this tool

  1. Type a song or an artist. Songs from our groove library come with the groove they are heard on; any other song gets a family of grooves in its style.
  2. Play the song in another app and tap along on every beat. The tempo is yours, so it matches the way your band plays it.
  3. Pick a groove or a plain click, choose a one or two bar count-in, and press Play.
  4. Try Around the tempo: eight bars at the tempo, then a little slower, then a little faster, and back.
  5. Add the song to your band setlist, or share a link with the tempo and groove.

Frequently asked questions

Where do the tempos come from?

From you. Tap along to the recording and the page reads the tempo from your taps. When a tempo comes from GetSongBPM, the page says so and links to it. The site never states a recording’s tempo without a credit.

Is the groove the drums from the record?

Only when it says “Study of this record”. Those grooves are studies of one famous drum part. Everything else is a groove in the song’s style for you to play along with.

What is “Around the tempo”?

Eight bars at each step: 100%, 85%, 100%, 90%, 105%, 95% and back to 100% of the song’s tempo. Varying the tempo around a target works at least as well as creeping up from slow, and it is less boring.

Why does my 6/8 song show a bigger number?

Tempos on this site count quarter notes. In 6/8 and 12/8 you feel the big beat, a dotted quarter, so tap that beat and the page does the maths.
