Tempo and feel
Lopsided but warm. The kick pickups lean forward and the snare leans back, yet the loop should feel like a band playing together, not a machine drifting. The default tempo is 80 BPM. It plays with 59% swing by default; move the Swing control toward 50% to hear it straight. Slow it down until every hit is controlled, then raise the tempo a few BPM at a time.
How to practise the Dilla-Influenced Neo-Soul
Play the hats alone with Swing up until the uneven spacing repeats. Add the late snare, then the early kick pickups against it. Add the ride bell on 1 and the bar-two turnaround.
Variations to try next
