Count it as: 1 e & a 2 e & a 3 e & a 4 e & a · two bars. The pattern is a 2-bar phrase in 4/4 (two-bar 16th-note downbeat funk pocket).

Tempo and feel
Everything points at beat 1. The rest of the bar stays lean and tight so the one lands like a door slamming. The default tempo is 112 BPM. It plays with 53% swing by default; move the Swing control toward 50% to hear it straight. Slow it down until every hit is controlled, then raise the tempo a few BPM at a time.
How to practise the On-the-One Funk
Play only beat 1 and the backbeat until the one feels twice as heavy as anything else. Add the and-of-1 and and-of-3 kicks softer than the downbeat. Open the hat on the and of 4 in bar two and close it exactly on the next 1.
Variations to try next
Drop every kick except beat 1. Add a crash on the one of bar one. Play the hats as straight 16ths for a busier verse.
